Hearths

Choosing the right hearth material is important for getting the right look that you wish to achieve, as the hearth will both compliment the stove, and bring the whole fireplace to life. All our inhouse options are natural stone being either granite, sandstone, slate or limestone. We can also supply glass hearths in various shapes, where there is no existing fireplace.

Varnished or Unvarnished?

It is important to seal the more porous stone types to reduce staining and blemishes during their lifetime and make them easier to keep clean so we offer both a clear sealent or a slightly darker varnish to choose from. Some examples of the different finishes can be seen below.

Above we have an example of the difference a varnished finish can make to a stone. As you can see it transforms the colour, darkening the stone to a degree.

Argento

Argento sealed

Where we use a clear sealant, in most cases the colour remains more or less the same, but the detail in the stone is enhanced.
